According to Ariely, our behaviors aren't random. They're systematic and predictable – making us predictably irrational. Understanding why we're predictably irrational, and recognizing the patterns, provides a starting point for improving our decision-making.

Apparently, he wanted to write a cookbook about 'eating over the sink' originally but was told he'd have to author something tied to his personal research first. So he wrote Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions.

In each of its 15 chapters, this book discusses different ways that we are irrational when it comes to decision making or how we behave. Each claim is supported with many different experiments that Dan Ariely has conducted with his students, friends and colleagues.
It's difficult and it's complex. And it's so complex that we don't know what to do. And because we have no idea what to do, we just pick whatever it was that was chosen for us. I'll give you one more example.
