Qapital makes saving fun. It's more than a simple spare change investing app and more than a robo-advisor, making its monthly fee well worth it for those who just can't get themselves to start saving.
The different rules help you save smart and the app tracks how much is saved toward each goal. Because Qapital doesn't have an investment option, it's tailored for more short-term goals. When money is deposited into an account, there is no interest earned or returns made – it just accumulates based on the deposits.
You can download the Qapital app for free. After a 30-day trial, however, you'll pay a monthly membership fee based on your choice of three service tiers: Basic: $3/month. Complete: $6/month.
FDIC Insured
The funds in your Qapital accounts are all insured by the FDIC. That means that you're covered for up to $250,000.
—While Qapital does make it easy to save and is free to use, you'll earn nothing on the money saved.
The Qapital Visa® Debit Card has daily limits on cash withdrawals, transfers, and purchases. You can spend up to $7,000 each day on your card (including card transactions, withdrawals, and transfers), and you can withdraw up to $510 (including ATM fees) from an ATM each day.
Save $500 in 30 Days Challenge
There are no complicated rules to remember. Week 1, you save $1.00. Week 2 you save $2.00, and it continues through the year, adding one more dollar to each week's savings goal. By Week 52, you'll set aside $52.00, which will bring the year's total savings to $1,378!
Best money apps for saving and investing
Qapital supports your bank! Our recent integration with software giant Intuit means that our app now works with nearly 20,000 U.S. banks, credit unions and community banks.
The app is no longer free, however. Digit charges subscribers $5 a month. For that fee, you'll get the auto-savings feature as well as the ability to use the app to pay down credit card debt and establish savings goals.
Cost and Fees
Fees can add up and they'll slow down the growth of your savings. Digit charges the largest fee of the three, offering 100 days of service for free, and then charging $2.99 per month (nearly $36 annually). Qapital charges no fees for the service. That makes it a good choice for savers on a budget.
