Marijuana users are at increased risk of experiencing sleep problems, especially if they started using the drug before age 15. A study that included 1,800 adults looked at participants' marijuana use over the past month, age of initiating drug use, and sleep problems.
Drug legalization would benefit the United States in several ways: save Federal, State, and local governments billions of dollars a year; lead to reduced crime and safer neighborhoods; and enhance public health.
Serious Negative Side Effects
Proponents of legalizing recreational marijuana say it will add billions to the economy, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, free up scarce police resources, and stop the huge racial disparities in marijuana enforcement.
Recent research has shown that legalizing marijuana reduces violence and trafficking associated with the illegal drug trade thereby reducing the power and wealth of cartels and drug gangs. On top of reducing drug related crime, legalizing marijuana has shown to be a meaningful avenue of raising tax revenue.

Other states such as Alaska and Oregon have seen similar situations. The Reason Foundation also states that jurisdictions that have legalized marijuana for medical uses have also seen a decrease in the number of opioid overdoses.

Overdosing by eating an edible is rarely a cause for serious concern, though it may lead to some disconcerting symptoms. Anyone having severe symptoms, such as panic attacks, a rapid heart rate, or difficulty breathing, should seek medical attention.
For Western states, a driving reason was a fear of Mexican immigrants who used the plant. In Eastern states, it was fear of African Americans and jazz musicians who used cannabis to “take advantage of white women.” Making marijuana illegal was essentially a way to outlaw being an immigrant or not white.
In humans, psychoactive cannabinoids produce euphoria, enhancement of sensory perception, tachycardia, antinociception, difficulties in concentration and impairment of memory. The cognitive deficiencies seem to persist after withdrawal.
