This is one of the biggest challenges of remote working that many employees struggle to manage. Clearly speaking, there is no advantage of working from home if you cannot manage your work-life balance and find it a challenge to unplug after work hours.
Disadvantages of Remote Work
In 2021, 27 percent of respondents state that their biggest struggle when working remotely is not being able to unplug. As many people who work from home do not necessarily have a designated workspace, they experience a conflation between their living area and workplace.
While avoiding the office and staying socially distant is crucial to stopping the spread of the virus, working from home can bring about other health concerns. A recent study found that 41.2% of at-home workers report low back pain and 23.5% experience neck pain.
Recognize the impact of isolation and loneliness: Working remotely can cause people to feel isolated, making it more important to routinely check in with your team, not only about their work product, but also to see how they are doing. Loneliness can lead to depression and other mental health issues.
Re: What's the hardest part about working virtually for you? The easiest? Easiest: NOT having to deal with daily traffic/crazy drivers and face-to-face interactions with obnoxious co-workers. Hardest: from the teaching perspective, I've found it VERY hard to teach well without being able to see my students' faces.
