Before tips, DoorDash drivers make around $12-$15/hour and GrubHub is closer to $12-$13/hour.
Delivery fees vary on DoorDash — as with Grubhub — but they typically range from $1.99 up to $8.
At the end of the day, though, UberEats came out the cheapest despite its highest base price due to the cheapest cost of delivery. When the journalist ordered a tofu teriyaki bowl, however, it was GrubHub that came out on top, at almost $3 cheaper than the other options.
Grubhub is launching a new subscription program for its customers that will cost $9.99 per month. The Grubhub+ program offers unlimited free delivery and 10% cash back. Most food delivery services already have their own subscription programs, but customers are not flocking to pay a monthly fee.
If you plan on working 7 days per week, and assuming an average of 30 days per month, you will need to make $133 per day to reach that goal. If you plan on working just Monday through Friday, that raises your daily number to $200 per day.
Since it all occurs without your restaurant's consent, Grubhub can't charge you the steep commissions it levies on partnered restaurants (which, by the way, it plans on increasing). Instead, your customers end up paying Grubhub high prices to cover all the costs.
Something you might not know about Grubhub is that drivers can actually see just how much you're tipping—before they accept your delivery request. “If you're only tipping something like 10 or 40 cents, there are drivers who will open that order, see it, and reject it,” Curtis says.
The typical Grubhub Delivery Driver salary is $27.
Surge Pricing: Similar to in ride-sharing, when there are busy times, you'll see the prices for food delivery are higher. Service Fee: Maybe the most missed cost of food delivery. Service fee is a percent of the cost of your order added to your final bill.
While both apps charge a small order fee if your subtotal falls below a specific minimum, DoorDash often has a lower order minimum than Uber Eats, meaning the small order fee is typically excluded if you're only ordering a single item. So, DoorDash tends to be the cheaper option for small orders.
SAME ORDER, DIFFERENT PRICES
On the other end of the spectrum, Postmates was the highest priced option for two out of every three orders, with both the highest average service fee and the highest average delivery fee.
